Byron Xavier Alvares received his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from York University (Summa Cum Laude). He received his Juris Doctor (Cum Laude) from the University of Ottawa, focusing his study in the area of criminal law. At the University of Ottawa, Mr. Alvares was a leader in the Criminal Law Students Association and took pride in educating the community about their legal rights, and the limits of police powers, through the Community Legal Clinic.
Mr. Alvares has devoted his entire professional career, exclusively, to the practice of criminal law. He worked for Pinkofsky’s Criminal Trial & Appeal Lawyers, which was at the time, Canada’s largest criminal defence firm. In 2011, joined Edward H. Royle & Associates as an Associate.
Mr. Alvares has a proven track record of success, with extensive experience in representing clients facing charges, ranging from attempted murder, assault, drug trafficking, importing, firearms, and human trafficking, to theft, threatening, fail to comply with court orders, and driving related charges, in both the Ontario Court of Justice, and the Superior Court of Justice.
Fuelled by a strong belief in providing the best possible defense, Mr. Alvares aggressively protects the the rights of his clients. He has particular interest in defending cases involving racial discrimination and violations of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms involving illegal detentions and searches.
