Tonya Kent completed her Specialized Honours Degree in Sociology at York University. She then completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Law. In her last year of law school, Ms. Kent won first place in the Dentons Negotiation Competition, going on to compete nationally against students from law schools across Canada. After graduating, Ms. Kent articled at Legal Aid Ontario focusing on criminal law. She gained experience working with clients with mental health and addiction issues. She has worked in a variety of legal clinics in Toronto with marginalized individuals and understands the issues that they face as a result of poverty and discrimination.
Since being called to the bar, Ms. Kent has represented clients in both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice for a variety of criminal charges, including robbery, assault, drug trafficking, sexual assault, and fraud.
Ms. Kent is a passionate, vocal, and hard working advocate for her clients. She understands the detrimental effect of a criminal record on her clients’ lives, including travel restrictions and difficulty obtaining employment opportunities. Ms. Kent will work vigorously for the best outcome for her clients.
